A new warehouse is coming to Ocala.
Red Rock Development, the company that was responsible for recently building the Amazon facility in Ocala, has broken ground at the site of a future warehouse located at 3100 44th Northwest Ave. The warehouse is expected to eclipse one million square feet.
The question is who will occupy the space at the new facility. The company admitted that it hadn't yet found a tenant for its new structure.
But even without prospective tenants signing on to a deal at the new warehouse, Red Rock Development's leaders agree that building the warehouse in Ocala was a must. "The reality is that there were not a lot of choices there’s a lot of land in Florida, but not a land that’s suitable because of water and wet and environmental impacts, or zoning," president John Barker said to MSN.
And the construction of more warehouse space figures to boost the economy, something that Ocala CEP presiident Kevin Sheilley didn't hesitate to point out. "Compared to the Ocala, Marion County commerce park where Amazon, Fedex and Autozone is. That’s 2 1/2 times that space, so we’re adding 2 1/2 times that. There are 3,000 jobs there, so it’s not far fetch to think that over the next couple of years we could see an additional 6 to 8,000 jobs," he commented.
