City of Ocala proposes new grant programs to strengthen neighborhood

The city of Ocala is set to review a potential grant program for the neighborhood of Marion Heights.

Officially titled the Imagine North Magnolia Residential Facade and Property Improvement Grant, the grant is calculated to motivate homeowners within the Marion Heights neighborhood to pretty up the exteriors of their houses. Single-family homeowners would be allowed to apply for a $10,000 grant, of which the city would pay 75%.

Forestar Real Estate to petition city of Ocala for CDD classification on new community

Forestar Real Estate Group, Inc., the company behind The Ridge at Heathbrook, is planning to petition the city of Ocala to change the classification status on its latest project.

The Ridge at Heathbrook, a residential housing development that the city green-lit in 2020, will feature nearly 400 new homes when it's complete. Construction of the new community is ongoing, and broken up into phases, the first of which will see 135 residential units erected.

Ocala Ranch continues fight to build new community

In 2017, the Marion County Commission struck down Ocala Ranch's plans to build a large community in the town of Ocala, even though the Planning & Zoning Commission recommended its approval. Ocala Ranch responded by filing a civil suit that sought over $20 million in damages, and not much has happened in the dispute since.

But then in mid-May, Ocala Ranch changed tactics, and began to seek a different venue in which to continue its legal battle.

Marion County to add massive amounts of warehouse space

By May of 2022, Marion County is expected to add approximately five million feet worth of warehouse space. The move comes as construction companies are banking on the county to become the distribution lynchpin of the Sunshine State. The expansion is going to mean that the county will more than double the amoung of space that is currently occupied by distribution centers.
